Fez — Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, best known globally for playing Sylvie Grateau in Netflix’s “Emily in Paris,” is stepping into a new role behind the camera with her producing debut on a Morocco-set action thriller.
According to Deadline, the project is currently in development and will be produced through Leroy-Beaulieu’s banner “Mariri Productions,” with the actress also se to star.
A Morocco shoot planned for fall
While plot details remain under wraps, the production is expected to film in Morocco this fall, adding to the country’s growing track record as a location for international projects that blend cinematic landscapes with experienced production infrastructure.
The film will also be produced by Éléonore Dailly and Édouard de Lachomette for “Autopilot,” the Paris and Los Angeles-based company behind titles including “I’m Not an Easy Man,” “Dangerous Liaisons,” and “I Love America.” Casting will be overseen by Nicolas Derouet of “ND et Fils,” Deadline reported.
A writer coming off major industry recognition
Deadline’s report also notes that the screenplay is written by Sam Boyer, who won the Academy Nicholl Fellowship in 2022 for his action thriller “Ojek” and later landed on the Black List in 2023 for “Foragers,” a kidnapping thriller.
Those credits place Boyer among a generation of writers being closely watched by studios and producers looking for high-concept, internationally scalable genre material.
A producer focus on “bold, mature” female leads
For Leroy-Beaulieu, the move signals more than a one-off credit.
Deadline describes her producing ambitions as centered on projects that foreground bold, mature female protagonists within an international framework, a positioning that aligns with the strong, sharp-edged characters she has become known for on screen.
