Rabat – In an extensive interview with Variety, accompanied by a photo shoot by Nino Munoz, Australian actress Nicole Kidman spoke about her 2014 filming of “Queen of the Desert”, shot largely in Morocco.
Locations included Ouarzazate, Merzouga, Erfoud, Marrakech, and Aït Ben Haddou, where she lived with her children for nearly two months.
“I went near the Algerian border with Werner Herzog for a camel ride. My children were lucky to live in Morocco and experience a much larger part of the world; the different flavors, smells, languages, and ideas,” Kidman recalled.
She has four children: Isabella Jane and Connor Anthony, adopted during her marriage to Tom Cruise, and Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, born from her marriage to Keith Urban.
The film reunited Kidman with James Franco and Robert Pattinson, who played T. E. Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia.
Kidman portrayed Gertrude Bell, a British writer, political analyst, spy, and government official who traveled the Middle East in the early 20th century to advance her country’s interests.
At 58, Kidman continues to be a major Hollywood presence, starring in the highly anticipated “Scarpetta” on Prime Video and set to reunite with Sandra Bullock for “Practical Magic 2” this fall.
She is also filming the third season of Taylor Sheridan’s “Lioness” and will appear in an upcoming horror film directed by Osgood Perkins.
Reflecting on her career and travels, Kidman emphasized her love for exploration both on and off screen, stating “This year and the next are dedicated to adventure. I’m going to do everything I’ve always dreamed of, things unrelated to work. Just to explore.”
