Fez — Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication is moving ahead with plans for an international forum on the impact of social media on young people, scheduled for June 23 to 25 in Rabat.

The event is being organized jointly with the League of Arab States and is expected to gather delegations from 24 countries, signaling Rabat’s growing role in regional conversations on digital policy and youth affairs.

The gathering stems from discussions held during the 49th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports in Cairo in January 2026, where member states examined ways to strengthen Arab cooperation in youth-related sectors.

Morocco’s selection as host for the forum points to a wider effort to position the country as a convening space for debates at the intersection of digital life, public policy, and youth development.

According to details reported this week, the forum will focus on the social, cultural, educational, and psychological effects of digital platforms on younger generations.

Organizers also want the discussions to produce practical recommendations for governments seeking to design policies that respond to the realities of online life while making better use of the opportunities social media can offer.

A wider diplomatic and media ambition

The event’s scope appears to go beyond the Arab world alone. Alongside Arab countries expected to take part, the invitee list reportedly includes Turkey, Senegal, Cameroon, and Japan, suggesting that the forum is also meant to speak to broader South-South cooperation and cross-regional dialogue on digital change.

Attendance is expected to reach around 200 participants, including Moroccan speakers and organizers, while planning documents reportedly provide for the reception of roughly 250 guests overall.

The communication strategy around the forum is also unusually ambitious. Organizers are said to require a full visual identity for the event, daily recap videos, a press conference, and the presence of at least 20 local and international media outlets.

A dedicated press room equipped for journalists is also planned, underlining Morocco’s intention to give the forum visibility well beyond institutional circles.
