Fez — Netflix has officially begun streaming “Steel Ball Run: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure,” bringing one of the franchise’s most anticipated arcs to screens worldwide. For now, however, viewers have only a single 47-minute “1st STAGE” episode to watch, with no official date announced for Episode 2.
The release has quickly generated excitement and frustration in equal measure. On its official Tudum platform, Netflix confirmed that the first episode is now available and told fans to “check back for more information.” Yet the vague update has done little to calm speculation about the show’s rollout.
And the ensuing uncertainty matters because “Steel Ball Run” is not just another anime launch. It adapts Part 7 of Hirohiko Araki’s long-running “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” series, an arc widely regarded by fans as one of the manga’s strongest.
Set in 1890s America, the story follows Johnny Joestar, a former jockey paralyzed from the waist down, as he joins the cross-country Steel Ball Run race alongside the mysterious Gyro Zeppeli.
Silence over the release plan
What remains unclear is whether Netflix intends to release the series weekly or in batches. No official schedule has been posted on Netflix’s title page or Tudum coverage beyond the first episode’s availability.
That silence has revived memories of “Stone Ocean,” whose release pattern on Netflix broke from the weekly rhythm many anime fans had grown used to with earlier “JoJo” installments. Instead of regular weekly episodes, that season arrived in separated batches, a strategy that many viewers said weakened community momentum around the show. Coverage in recent entertainment outlets has noted that fans now fear “Steel Ball Run” could follow the same model.
Adding to the uncertainty, director Yasuhiro Kimura recently told Anime Trending that he also could not say when new episodes would arrive.
He said production was progressing smoothly, but suggested more work was still underway, reinforcing the impression that Netflix’s full release strategy has not yet been made public.
