Fez — Spotify has introduced “SongDNA,” a new beta feature designed to surface the creative network behind a song, from writers and producers to samples, interpolations, and cover versions.

The company says the tool is rolling out globally to Premium users on iOS and Android, with broader availability across Premium planned through April.

Built into the Now Playing view, “SongDNA” appears as a card on supported tracks. Tapping it opens an interactive map of connections, allowing listeners to move from a song to its creators and then to other projects those collaborators have worked on, turning credits into a discovery pathway rather than a static list.

What ‘SongDNA’ shows

Spotify says “SongDNA” brings key creation details into one place, including credited collaborators, samples and interpolations that influenced a track’s sound, and covers that a song inspired. The experience is designed to let users follow those links outward, exploring how genres and eras intersect through shared creative teams.

The new feature is positioned as complementary to Spotify’s existing “About the Song” feature, which focuses more on narrative context and the story behind a track. “SongDNA,” by contrast, centers on lineage and collaboration, turning a song into an expandable web of people and influences.

Recognition for songwriters and behind-the-scenes creators

Spotify framed “SongDNA” as a way to make credit and contribution more visible, especially for the wider creative community of songwriters, producers, composers, and engineers who often remain less recognized than performers.

“SongDNA is designed to make a song’s creative lineage more transparent so fans can easily explore the people and influences behind the music they love,” Jacqueline Ankner, Spotify’s Head of Songwriter & Publisher Partnerships, said in the announcement.

Spotify added that the connections displayed in “SongDNA” are powered by information supplied by artists and their teams, supplemented by community-sourced data.

Eligible artist and label teams will be able to review and manage “SongDNA” components through “Spotify for Artists” as the beta evolves, the company said.
