Fez — Paul McCartney has announced a new solo album, “‘The Boys Of Dungeon Lane,’” his first in more than five years, alongside the release of its reflective lead single, “‘Days We Left Behind.’”
The album is due out on May 29 via “MPL” and “Capitol Records,” marking McCartney’s first solo follow-up to 2020’s “‘McCartney III.’”
According to McCartney’s official website, the new record takes its title from a lyric in “‘Days We Left Behind.’” The song captures the emotional center of the project and looks back on places and memories tied to his upbringing in Liverpool. Press materials describe the album as his “most introspective” work so far, one that returns to his post-war childhood, family life, and the years before “The Beatles.”
A return to Liverpool
McCartney said the lead single is “very much a memory song for me,” explaining that it grew out of reflections on “the days I left behind.” He added that the track includes references to John Lennon, Forthlin Road, and Dungeon Lane, a place near the Speke area where he grew up.
Recalling those years, McCartney said his family “didn’t have much at all but it didn’t matter because all the people were great and you didn’t notice you didn’t have much.”
That personal framing appears to define the wider album. Reports on the release say the 14-track project revisits McCartney’s early life in working-class Liverpool while also making room for newer love songs and later reflections, giving the record a balance between memory and present-day feeling.
Made between tours
The album was recorded with producer Andrew Watt in Los Angeles and Sussex over a five-year period, with sessions fitted around McCartney’s live schedule rather than driven by label deadlines. That working method, according to the official announcement, gave the project room to develop gradually and organically.
The published tracklist includes 14 songs, among them “‘As You Lie There,’” “‘Lost Horizon,’” “‘Days We Left Behind,’” “‘We Two,’” and “‘Momma Gets By.’” Official shop listings and announcement materials confirm the full album lineup ahead of its May release.
