Fez — Saidia Mediterrania has retained the Blue Flag for its beach for the 14th consecutive year, while its marina has received the distinction for a 10th straight year.
According to a press release issued on August 24, the two uninterrupted runs reflect the resort’s efforts to maintain environmental quality, protect the coastline, and improve conditions for visitors during the summer season.
The resort said its beach facilities include free parking, showers, toilets, foot-rinse stations, and adapted access for people with reduced mobility.
As part of the “Plages Propres” (Clean Beaches) program, Saidia Mediterrania has also established an environmental awareness kiosk offering educational activities for children focused on coastal protection.
Waste management and environmental measures
The press release said the summer season has required additional measures because of higher visitor numbers.
A series of coordination meetings has been held with the Marafik Berkane Local Development Company, allowing hotels and tourism operators to arrange waste collection services according to their level of activity.
The Société de Développement Saidia (SDS) has also acquired more than 23 new waste bins to strengthen existing collection infrastructure.
At Medina Mall, a sorting center now separates plastic, cardboard, and household waste.
SDS added that environmental treatment carried out outside the summer season has contributed to a noticeable decline in mosquitoes, particularly during the first evenings of the high season.
The resort also highlighted measures introduced as part of its broader development strategy, including vegetation adapted to the local climate and designed to consume less water.
Saidia Mediterrania said it encourages lower-impact mobility through bicycle rentals, electric scooters, and electric two-wheelers.
The destination also referred to its involvement in the Green Destinations and HQE™ Aménagement Durable certification and assessment processes.
Tourism, culture, and local economic activity
The press release also presented sustainability as extending beyond environmental management.
Saidia Mediterrania said its seasonal program includes beach rugby competitions, golf events, music festivals, art exhibitions, and openings.
At Medina Mall and the marina, shops and temporary spaces also showcase local products, crafts, and expertise from Morocco’s Oriental region.
Hotels in the resort are increasingly incorporating those regional products and practices into their activities, according to SDS.
The company said these measures are intended to support a model of sustainable tourism combining environmental quality, visitor experience, economic attractiveness, and promotion of the surrounding territory.
Founded in 2011 and jointly owned by MADAËF and ITHMAR, SDS is responsible for managing, modernizing, and organizing activities across Saidia Mediterrania.
The company says its role includes improving infrastructure, strengthening hotel capacity, diversifying leisure activities, and supporting year-round economic opportunities.
Located on Morocco’s Mediterranean coast, Saidia Mediterrania stretches along 14 kilometers of beach and sits near the Moulouya River, which is classified as a Site of Biological and Ecological Interest.
The resort includes hotels, a marina, golf courses, an aquapark, restaurants, a shopping center, and seaside promenades.
By maintaining its Blue Flag distinctions while expanding waste management, accessibility, and environmental services, Saidia Mediterrania is presenting the 2026 summer season as part of a longer-term push toward more sustainable coastal tourism.
