Rabat – Jacob & Co. has unveiled the Brilliant Flying Tourbillon Baguette Pastel Arlequino, a one-of-a-kind luxury timepiece priced at $693,000 (MAD 6,511,125) and covered in pastel sapphires and white diamonds.
The 42mm watch is crafted from 18K white gold and features an invisibly set case adorned with 194 baguette-cut pastel sapphires and 32 white diamonds.
Together, the stones create a geometric pattern in soft shades of pink, lavender, blue, and green.
The colorful design draws inspiration from Arlecchino, the famous character from Italy’s commedia dell’arte, known for his patchwork costume.
The same treatment extends to the dial, which is set with 139 baguette-cut pastel sapphires and 23 white diamonds.
The crown features another 12 sapphires and a white diamond, leaving virtually no part of the timepiece without gemstone detailing.
The biggest surprise is hidden inside
Jacob & Co. has placed 54 brilliant-cut white diamonds directly onto the balance wheel, one of the most delicate components responsible for regulating a mechanical watch.
The brand describes this as the first diamond-set balance wheel in modern watchmaking, turning a normally technical component into one of the watch’s main visual attractions.
Behind the watch’s elaborate setting is a technical challenge. Adding diamonds to a balance wheel changes its weight, which can affect the wheel’s performance and precision.
Jacob & Co. therefore had to engineer the component specifically around the gemstones.
The balance oscillates at 21,600 vibrations per hour, while the flying tourbillon completes one rotation every minute, creating a constantly moving reflection of light.
The watch is completed with a white alligator strap and an 18K white-gold buckle decorated with 21 pastel sapphires.
The Pastel Arlequino is not intended to be something you casually add to your collection between two shopping trips, it is presented as a unique piece.
Hypebeast reports its price at $693,000, which puts it in the territory where a watch becomes as much a statement piece as a timekeeper.
With its mix of bright gemstones, moving diamonds and serious mechanical engineering, Jacob & Co. has essentially turned a wristwatch into a tiny piece of kinetic jewelry.
