Rabat – Tennis legend Maria Sharapova returned to Morocco’s top destination Marrakech to celebrate her friend Kristina Romonova’s birthday.

Always impressed by Morocco’s cultural richness and vibrant atmosphere, the former tennis player was adorned in a cape inspired by Morocco’s rich cape heritage and belgha-styled shoes.

Commenting on the picture she posted on her Instagram, the former tennis player said: “A cape, a breathtaking backdrop, and a beautiful occasion.”

This is not the first and only stop by the former tennis player in Morocco.

Earlier this year, the Russian tennis player vacationed in Morocco, immersing herself in the country’s rich culture and cuisine.

In January, she posted a series of pictures on social media, capturing her moments in Agafay Desert in southern Marrakech.

Many celebrities choose the Moroccan desert or other top destinations like Agadir, Fez, Rabat and Chefchaouen among others to either celebrate their winter holidays or celebrate their birthdays or New Year’s Eve in the North African country.

Last year, Morocco welcomed 14.5 tourists and now seeks to attract over 15 million tourists this year. Meanwhile, the country aims to welcome 17 million visitors and 26 million others by 2030.
