Marrakech – Essaouira is set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Andalousies Atlantiques Festival from October 30 to November 2, marking two decades of musical celebration that blend tradition, diversity, and memory.

Often described as the modern-day Zyriab of the Moroccan coast, Essaouira invites audiences to explore music in all its forms, offering a rich reflection of shared histories and cultural exchanges.

The opening concert promises a tribute to the classics of “Al Ala” in the style of Essaouira, with performances inspired by the legendary Abdessadek Chekara.

Young musicians from across Morocco, representing the schools of Tetouan, Fez, Tangier, Marrakech, Chefchaouen, and Ouazzane, will transport audiences through time and tradition under the direction of Maestro Mohamed Laroussi, making his debut at the festival.

Another highlight will be a special evening led by Maxime Karoutchi and his orchestra, paying unprecedented homage to the great Jewish voices of the Maghreb, from Salim Halali to Samy El Maghribi, Zohra Al Fassia to Reinette l’Oranaise, and Lili Al Abassi to Cheikh Muijo and Albert Suissa.

This long-awaited retrospective will revive the Maghreb’s rich Judeo-Muslim musical repertoire spanning Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria.

Essaouira once again becomes a stage where music transcends language, with concerts throughout the day, into the evening, and after midnight.

Every morning, the festival will host a forum, continuing its tradition since the first edition, exploring the theme “the importance of place, the importance of connection,” embodying the unique spirit of Essaouira known as “Souiritude.”

For its anniversary edition, the festival will also feature the Ballet Flamenco de l’Andalousie, directed by renowned choreographer Patricia Guerrero, whose latest work Tierra Bendita has been acclaimed internationally.

The grand finale will see the beloved Raymonde El Bedaouia take the stage once more, promising an unforgettable celebration of joy, rhythm, and charm, cementing her status as a festival icon.

Essaouira’s Andalousies Atlantiques Festival remains a testament to the city’s enduring love for music, culture, and shared memories, offering both tradition and innovation in harmony.
