Rabat – American supermodel Gigi Hadid was arrested and fined during her luxurious vacation in the Cayman Islands earlier this month when she and a friend of hers were charged with cannabis possession.

The incident took place on July 10, as the 28-year-old and her friend arrived on a private jet to enjoy their vacation.

According to reports, Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control officers searched their luggage and discovered a small amount of marijuana along with utensils used for cannabis consumption.

The customs officials subsequently detained Gigi Hadid and her friend, Leah McCarthy, for the importation of the controlled substance.

However, the situation took a less severe turn during their appearance in the Cayman Islands summary court just two days later. The two promptly pleaded guilty to the charges, leading to the court imposing a fine of 1,000 Cayman Islands dollars ($1,200). No conviction was recorded against them.

Gigi Hadid’s representative later addressed the incident, stating that the marijuana in question had been legally purchased in New York, where she holds a medical license for its use.

They further emphasized that cannabis had been legalized for medical purposes in Grand Cayman since 2017.

Hadid did not allow the incident to mar her vacation, as she took to her Instagram account on Tuesday, sharing photos of the picturesque locale, captioning one post with a lighthearted “All’s well that ends well” for her millions of followers.

Gigi Hadid is one of the world’s most recognizable and highest-paid models, boasting an impressive portfolio of collaborations with luxury brands such as Versace, Chanel, Fendi, and Marc Jacobs.
