Rabat – Colombian superstar singer Shakira has joined a growing list of celebrities who choose to visit Morocco’s red city Marrakech.

National Company of Radio and Television SNRT reported Shakira is staying at Morocco’s famous La Mamounia hotel in Marrakech and was spotted with a group of tourists taking part in a visitor’s and historical excursion in Marrakech.

Shakira is also using her trip to Marrakech to film a commercial for a Moroccan real estate company, the same source detailed.

The Colombian singer’s last visit to Morocco dates back to 2011, when she went to the markets in Marrakech, and then performed a show at Rabat’s Mawazine Festival.

Tourists flock to Marrakech every year to experience its unique culture and explore its many attractions.

Several A-list celebrities and public figures have chosen Morocco’s red city Marrakech as their destination to see in 2023 for  their new year’s celebrations including French TV and radio presenter Ophelie Meunier, American actor Ben Felman and his wife Michelle Mulitz, and The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, among others.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Marrakech maintained its leading place as one of the best tourist attractions in Morocco and the world.

Marrakech ranked eighth in travel platform TripAdvisor’s Most Popular Tourist Destinations for 2023.

Describing Marrakech as a “magical place brimming with markets, gardens, palaces, and mosques,” the travel company recommends exploring the historic medina, visiting the serene Jardin Majorelle, or taking in the beauty of the city’s historic mosques.

Marrakech is no stranger to international acclaim. The city was named the seventh best city to live in 2022 in the global Time Out Global Index 2022.

In February 2022, international travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller featured Marrakech in its top 10 friendliest cities in the world.
