Rabat – Eid Al Fitr 2022 is expected to take place on May 2, according to Egypt’s National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG).
The president of the institute, Gad El-Qady said earlier this week that the crescent moon will not be visible at sunset on Saturday, April 30 in Egypt and other Arab countries.
Egypt’s Dar El-Iftaa is yet to reveal the official date after the sighting of the crescent moon for the month of Shawaal.
Shawaal is the tenth month in the Islamic calendar, marking the end of Ramadan.
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced on Monday a holiday from April 30 until May 5 to celebrate both Labor Day and Eid Al Fitr.
Like other astronomer experts, El-Qady also expects that Egyptians will fast for 30 days.
Some countries will fast for only 29 days, including Morocco. The North African country celebrated the first day of Ramadan on April 3 while many other countries announced April 2 as the first day of the holy month.
Moroccan astronomers expect Eid Al Fitr to be on May 2.
Other countries, like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar, will also celebrate the first day of Eid Al Fitr on May 2.
Muslims celebrate Eid Al Fitr with both religious and cultural traditions. In the morning, Muslims flock to mosques to carry out Eid prayers.
Following prayers, families gather for the morning breakfast after a month of fasting. Breakfast includes tea, coffee, juices, and sweets.
Families further exchange visits and hospital receptions with different types of food.
Some families also exchange gifts, while children are given new clothes to mark the celebration.
