This Moroccan artist transforms the ordinary into extraordinary, captivating audiences with his vibrant, playful compositions that blur the lines between sculpture and painting.
Casablanca – L’Atelier 21 art gallery is buzzing with excitement as it welcomes Moroccan art legend Abdelkrim Ouazzani to its roster.
Known for his boundary-breaking “three-dimensional painting,” Ouazzani’s style brings a bold new perspective to contemporary art, both in Morocco and abroad.
A Creative Journey from Tetouan to Paris
Born in 1954 in Tetouan, Morocco, Abdelkrim Ouazzani’s artistic journey began at the École des Beaux-Arts in Tetouan, where he first honed his skills.
Ouazzani’s pursuit of knowledge took him to Paris, where he further developed his craft and was influenced by various art movements.
Upon returning to Morocco, the artist became a significant figure in the local art scene, serving as an educational director and eventually as the director of the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan.
This prominent figure’s contributions as an educator have helped shape the next generation of Moroccan artists.
3D art like you’ve never seen
Forget traditional categories – Ouazzani’s style, which he dubs “three-dimensional painting,” blurs the lines between painting and sculpture.
His “painting-sculptures” bring life to materials like metal, plaster, and canvas, transforming them into vibrant forms that radiate fragility and humanity.
Wrapped in bold colors, his creations evoke a sense of innocence, taking viewers back to the wonder of childhood.
Visual poetry that strikes a chord
Ouazzani’s visual language is structured yet whimsical, creating compositions that captivate with their blend of order and playfulness.
This unique vision resonates deeply, weaving poetic storytelling with innovative techniques that have earned acclaim far beyond Morocco’s borders
