Marrakech – The first day of the 2024 Africa Chefs Tournament competition kicked off today at the Palmeraie Rotana Resort, setting the stage for an epic culinary showdown.

On September 12, chefs from Egypt, Ghana, Mauritius, Morocco, and Senegal will face a grueling 5-hour and 35-minute challenge as they battle it out in the “Bocuse d’Or Africa” tournament.

The first day of the competition is off to a fiery start, with challenges that push chefs to their creative limits.

Competing countries are tasked with proving their culinary prowess through two intense tests, blending tradition with innovation.

First challenge up is the “Platter Theme,” where chefs must transform a roasted beef sirloin and veal sweetbreads into a masterpiece.

Accompanied by three vegetable garnishes, one proudly representing each contestant’s home country, this dish is expected to showcase the richness of African culinary traditions while meeting the strict standards of international presentation.

Then comes the “Plate Theme” challenge, where creativity truly takes the stage. Chefs must craft an entire menu around a humble carrot, creating an appetizer, a main course featuring three scallops, and a dessert.

To up the ante, they can incorporate a second vegetable protein, allowing them to merge local flavors with inventive flair.

The chefs and pastry masters competing have been rigorously selected in their respective countries, each here to proudly defend their nation’s culinary heritage before a jury of the industry’s top experts.

Morocco’s representatives, in particular, earned their place through the TOC Maroc, a prestigious competition held in May 2023 during the CREMAI trade show.

People from across Africa have gathered in Marrakech to celebrate the chefs and the culinary arts. This event is a vibrant tribute to the continent’s rich food culture, uniting food enthusiasts and experts in admiration of the skill and creativity on display.

Organized by Rahal Event, this prestigious tournament goes far beyond a simple culinary competition.

It stands as a celebration of Africa’s rich gastronomic heritage while serving as a platform for innovation and creativity, where tradition meets modernity.
