Rabat – Construction on one of Morocco’s biggest future theaters located in Agadir will start in the second quarter of 2022.
The initial schedule provided by Al Omrane Souss Massa, a state-backed housing company, indicates that construction work for the theater is to start in Q2 of 2022, according to a report from Construction Review.
A consortium of construction companies comprising Urbagec, Polysol, and Separator will deliver the carcass work, waterproofing, as well as steel framework, the report says.
Al Omrane group will manage the consortium overseeing the mega project that is part of Morocco’s Urban Development Program (PDU) for the region that is scheduled between 2020 and 2024.
A number of construction companies had previously applied to the tender for the construction of the grand theater including Roudani, Jet Contractors, and AHMA.
After concluding the process of reviewing the tender application, Al Omrane Group announced the consortium.
In the course of the fourth quarter of 2022, Al Omrane will launch two more tenders.
The tender will relate to electrical work, air conditioning, and ventilation among others.
Agadir’s grand theater is part of Morocco’s vision to turn the southern city into a metropolitan city by developing its infrastructure.
In recent years, Morocco has been heavily invested in mega projects aiming to boost the country’s cultural infrastructure.
In March, the government announced plans to open 150 cinemas, theaters, and youth centers in Morocco.
As of March 2022, the country had around 25 cultural spaces. Cultural facilities are largely concentrated in Morocco’s capital Rabat, and business hub, Casablanca.
In addition to boosting cultural activities in Morocco, the government hopes to generate job opportunities and strengthen Morocco’s international presence in the cultural arena.
