Fez – Less than a week after winning the Premier League title, Algerian international Riyad Mahrez headed to Marrakech to spend his summer holiday in the luxurious city.
Mahrez shared stories showing him enjoying his family trip to the Moroccan red city on his Instagram account.
Mahrez’s wife, English model Taylor Ward, also took to Instagram to share joyful moments in the city with her followers. In the short clips, Ward appeared to taste Marrakech’s delicious dishes in one of the city’s luxurious hotels.
The Manchester City winger is currently enjoying his time off the pitch after a busy season, sealing the domestic title for the Citizens in the final moments by a single point.
Mahrez is expected to join the Algerian football team early next month, ahead of the team’s preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Uganda and Tanzania scheduled to take place respectively on June 4 and 8.
But, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) announced on Thursday that the Algerian superstar will not play in the upcoming matches. Citing a medical report delivered by Manchester City medical board, FAF underscored that the player suffers a muscle injury and needs recovery.
“The captain of the national team, Ryad Mahrez, will be absent from the next training camp of the Fennecs and will not take part in the two games of the qualifiers for the AFCON TotalEnergies – Ivory Coast 2023,” said FAF in a statement.

Still, Mahrez appears not to be the only Algerian player who chose to spend his summer holiday in the Moroccan city.
West Ham United winger Said Benrahma similarly shared some glimpses of his latest trip to Marrakech on his Instagram account.
Besiktas FC midfielder Rachid Ghezzal was documented roaming the beautiful corridors of Marrakech’s Jardin Majorelle.
Marrakech is widely regarded as a top travel destination in Morocco, attracting millions of visitors each year.
Its friendly people, and ability to mix the traditional and modern, make the red city one of the friendliest cities in the world, the travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller said in February.
Such characteristics have attracted many celebrities looking to experience the vibrant atmosphere of the red city.
Diego Simeone, the head coach of Spain’s football club Atletico Madrid, was one of the latest figures to pay a visit to Marrakech.
In pictures shared on social media by his wife Carla Peryera, Simeone appeared to be enjoying a camel ride and sunny weather in the golden sand of the Agafay desert near Marrakech.
