Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid met with Netflix representatives for the Middle East and North Africa region on Monday, October 3 to develop a “strategic partnership” with the platform.
The partnership between Morocco and the streaming giant would focus on the production of Moroccan content, development of the Moroccan film industry, and giving Moroccan cinema more international acclaim.
The two parties discussed the international company’s projects in Morocco and how to facilitate the processes for international film and TV production in Morocco.
They also addressed the lack of Moroccan content on Netflix’s platforms emphasizing the importance of its presence, leading the ministry to work with the global platform to remedy this lack.
The communique from the meeting recalled that Morocco is a “world destination” in the film industry. The press release also recalled filmmakers’ choice to shoot their films in Morocco, which has long been a destination for major Hollywood productions such as Indiana Jones and Game of Thrones.
