Rabat – Eid Al Fitr 2023 will be on April 21 in Bahrain, according to Bahrain News Agency (BNA).
The Gulf country sighted the crescent moon for Shawwal, the tenth month in the Islamic calendar, this evening.
Shawwal marks the end of Ramadan.
To celebrate Eid, Bahrain announced a three-day holiday for workers.
Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, issued a circular on the Eid holidays on Tuesday.
“The circular stipulates that the Kingdom’s ministries and public institutions will close on the day of Eid Al Fitr and the two days that follow,” Arabian Business reported.
The circular added that if any of the Eid days comes in conjunction with an official holiday, an “extra day will be given in lieu,” the news outlet reported.
Eid Al Fitr festivities start with religious rituals, including morning communal prayers. Muslims then engage in social gatherings, including a morning breakfast where several delicious foods, particularly sweets, are served.
Muslims are also encouraged to pay a mandatory charity called “Zakat Al Eid” or “Zakat Al Fitr” ahead of the feast. The charity should be awarded to the people most in need.
Many countries are celebrating Eid Al Fitr on Friday, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Other countries like Morocco are expected to announce Saturday, April 22 as Eid Al Fitr.
