Rabat – The Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) has won the “Best Stand” award at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), which is currently taking place in Madrid, Spain between January 24 and 28. FITUR gives the award every year to the participant whom they feel has exhibited the most professional and original display of their product.
ONMT’s award-winning stand featured a “cutting-edge” Moroccan pavilion with a “contemporary and inspiring design” amplifying the “authentic charm and the globally welcoming essence of Morocco,” the office said in a press release.
The tourism office also stated that the pavilion reflects the “rich tapestry” of Morocco’s culture and heritage. The recently designed structure, which was introduced a few months ago and showcased in tourism fairs worldwide, spans an impressive 700 square meters.
For the Madrid edition of FITUR, the pavilion featured dedicated spaces for the Moroccan cities of Tangier and Ouarzazate. ONMT aimed to highlight the two cities’ tourism assets.
In addition to the award-winning pavilion, the ONMT has solidified its presence in Spain and Portugal by formalizing partnerships with the Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies (CEAV) and the Portuguese Association of Travel Agencies and Tourism (APAVT).
The shared objective is to designate 2024 as the Year of Morocco for both institutions. This will include the implementation of an annual action plan involving over 5,000 members from each confederation across Spanish and Portuguese territories.
According to ONMT, these partnerships aim to “further enhance the perception of Morocco” and also to promote awareness of “its rich cultural heritage, tourist destinations, gastronomy, and all innovations that can enrich offerings for travel agencies.”
These relationships create the groundwork for more collaboration between Moroccan tourism professionals and their Spanish and Portuguese counterparts.
Adding to Morocco’s recognition at the fair, the Portuguese group GEA awarded ONMT the “Best International Destination ” trophy for the Portuguese market.
