At Mawazine’s Nahda stage, two distinct voices lit up the crowd with emotion, rhythm, and electric presence.

Rabat – Last night, the Nahda stage came alive with a captivating mix of tarab and rap, as Moroccan-Iraqi singer Shada Hassoun and Tunisian rapper Nordo delivered vibrant performances during the 20th edition of the Mawazine Festival.

Returning to Mawazine after more than twelve years, Shada Hassoun marked her comeback with an unforgettable performance that showcased both nostalgia and artistic evolution.

She was greeted with tremendous applause and opened her set with a gnawa-inspired musical intro—infusing her show with a vibe that was distinctly Moroccan from the start.

With her warm voice and emotional lyrics, Hassoun took the audience on a musical journey, performing a rich repertoire that spanned her own hits and a variety of songs from the Machrek (Eastern Arab world,) Maghreb (North Africa,) and Gulf.

The repertoire included fan-favorites like “Laâyoune Ayniya,” “Âl Âyn Moulayti,” “Chaalha,” “Rouh Mabghi Gharamak,” and “Al Maghrib Ya Watanna,” which she  delivered with a blend of authenticity.

The second half of the evening switched tones with an energetic performance by Tunisian rapper Nordo, whose entrance featured a dynamic choreography, laser visuals, and powerful beats. Backed by a group of dancers, Nordo delivered an energetic performance that resonated with the younger crowd through socially-charged lyrics and a raw, youthful edge.

He performed popular tracks such as “Ya Dounia” and “Arbouch,” which resonated with the audience thanks to their emotional realism and relatable themes. His show stood out for its rhythmic complexity – mixing rap with electro-pop beats, and for its impeccable technical execution.

Nordo’s appearance was a complete stage production—fusing choreography, lighting, and sound design into a polished performance that highlighted his growing influence on the regional music scene.

The 20th edition of the Mawazine – Rhythms of the World Festival isn’t over. Until June 28, MWN will keep bringing the scoops and interviews with your favorite artists. Stay tuned!
