Rabat – After a sabbatical from the music world, American actor and rapper Will Smith is back on centre stage with his new album “Based on a True Story” released in March 2025.

His rap style, known for its family-friendly and humorous lyrics, is sure to turn up smiles during tonight’s Mawazine performance.

The famous international rapper will be performing at 10:30 p.m., at OLM Souissi. Home of international music and roaring crowds, this event is sure to be an unmissable act at Mawazine 2025.

With a successful career in both the music and screen industries and multiple platinum albums and Grammy awards to his name, Will Smith is more than just a rapper, but an actor and filmmaker in his own right.

Early Career

In the 1980s, Will Smith performed in a duo under the stage name “The Fresh Prince” with his friend DJ Jazzy Jeff. They released several albums like “Rock the House,” “He’s the Dj, I’m the Rapper,” and “Code Red” – blending hip-hop and pop in light-hearted story-telling and comedic rhymes.

Smith’s career turned over towards acting, further boosting his global profile and helping launch his solo career in the early 2000s.

Solo Career

The rapper’s solo music career between 1997 and 2005 produced some of his most well known songs, like “Miami” and “Gettin’ Jiggy wit It” that achieved a Billboard Hot 100 #1 ranking and it is still danced to today.

His rap music was most celebrated for its lack of profanity, popularising what is known as “clean” rap and helping bridge the gap between rap and pop music. His music played often on radio and appealed to a wide-ranging audience.

After 2005, Smith took a break from music to focus on acting.

Return to Music

In March 2025, Will Smith released his first full length album in 20 years. Under the name “Based on a True Story,” it features 14 tracks and marks his return to music with his first ever head-lining world tour this summer.

The rapper will also be appearing in festivals across Europe and tonight, at our very own Mawazine in Morocco. So don’t miss the opportunity to see the beloved rapper live tonight!
