Rabat – This October, the Dubai Comedy Festival will feature the standout theatrical production, “Malik Al-Masrah” (The King of the Stage,) a non-traditional play in Arabic that blends dark comedy, social critique, and emotional intensity on the iconic stage of Dubai Opera.

Set in the year 2060, “Malik Al-Masrah” follows the fictional legacy of Ibrahim Ahsanahom, a celebrated performer whose ego casts a shadow over his achievements.

Told through a dual timeline—with younger and older versions of the protagonist sharing the spotlight—the play explores how fame distorts identity, and how the public eye can both elevate and consume the artist.

Performances are scheduled for October 3 and 4 with an outstanding cast led by Kuwaiti comedian and Netflix actor Khaled Al-Muthafar in the lead role. The rest of the cast includes Khaled Al-Ajereb, Eman Faisal, Ahmad Al Muthafar, Areej Al-Attar, Abdulaziz Safar, Mohammed Safar, Salman Kayed, and Mahdi Dashti.

Directed by Amir Mataar and produced in partnership with Al Qaiser and Best Production, this play is the latest collaboration between Al-Muthafar and writer-director Abdulaziz Safar, who achieved critical success with their earlier piece, “The First of its Kind.”

Though hosted as part of the Dubai Comedy Festival, the production offers more than laughs.

“Malik Al-Masrah” criticizes the corrupted side of stardom while honoring the vulnerability that is the heart of performance. With moments of introspection and satirical humor, the play invites the audience to question the cost of ambition and the value of humility in a world obsessed with validation.

Performances will be held at Dubai Opera on:
