Rabat– The silly, mischievous witch Sarah Sanderson may have soured our potions with an unforeseen update on the long-awaited “Hocus Pocus 3”, especially since the sequel was first confirmed two years ago by Sean Bailey, Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production president, to The New York Times.
Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays Sarah Sanderson, recently appeared on “Watch What Happens Live!” and shared some unexpected details on the progress of the franchise.
When asked about the possibility of the sequel shooting in London, Parker stated, “No more developments, other than we would like to do it.”
She elaborated that while she, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy have been “having some conversations,” discussing any plans are still very preliminary.
The first “Hocus Pocus”, starring the trio, was released back in 1993. The three ladies have maintained their roles for “Hocus Pocus 2,” which was released in September 2022 on Disney+, 29 years later.
The franchise has maintained a loyal fan base throughout the years, with the second film being a massive success for Disney+, breaking streaming records. Yet, progress on the third film seems to be slow.
Screenwriter Jen D’Angelo, from “Hocus Pocus 2”, confirmed in 2023 that “Hocus Pocus 3” is still in development, currently in the “story phase” as they explore directions. D’Angelo previously expressed excitement about returning to the world, hinting at expanding Hannah Waddingham’s Mother Witch storyline.
According to Parker, during the “Hocus Pocus 2” filming, Najimy had suggested, in a fun twist, the idea of an animated third sequel of the film.
“That would be cool and a smart idea. It’s fun, funny, and could be interesting and innovative, like old-fashioned or new [animation]. Of course I’d be happy to have a conversation, it just depends on what Kathy and Bette want,” said the “Sex in the City” star.
Fans are holding out for a live-action “Hocus Pocus” continuation, even though an animated version could offer a fresh take on the witches’ antics.
While fans eagerly await a return to Salem, it appears the Sanderson sisters won’t be flying back just yet. With “Hocus Pocus 3” still in its early development phase, the franchise’s future remains wide open.
For now, the spell remains uncast, but the cauldron is still bubbling!
