Marrakech – Belgian authorities have launched an investigation into the death of a 35-year-old Canadian woman who fell ill during the opening night of Tomorrowland.

The Antwerp prosecutor’s office confirmed today that they are working to determine the cause of her death. The woman was among tens of thousands who gathered on Friday in Boom, near Antwerp, to experience the festival’s electric atmosphere.

According to the event’s organizers, the woman became unwell at the festival grounds, received immediate first aid on site, and was then transferred to a hospital, where she tragically later died.

“This morning, we were saddened to learn of her death. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and loved ones,” said Tomorrowland spokeswoman Debby Wilmsen.

This sudden death comes after the massive electronic music festival already made headlines with another incident earlier this week when their main stage burned down in a massive fire, forcing organizers to quickly scramble and set up an alternate stage to keep the event on track.

Tomorrowland, which features a star-studded lineup including David Guetta, Lost Frequencies, and Charlotte de Witte, draws electronic music fans from across the globe. This year, around 400,000 attendees are expected over two weekends.

As the investigation continues, the electronic music community mourns the loss amid the pulsating beats and dazzling lights of Tomorrowland.
