Rabat – Ellen DeGeneres and partner Portia de Rossi confirmed that after Trump’s win, they made the decision to leave the US and settle permanently in the UK’s countryside.
They had already purchased a property in the Cotswolds region, but Ellen revealed that Trump’s win was the final push.
“We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis. And I was like, ‘He got in’. And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here’,” said DeGeneres in a recent interview with broadcaster Richard Bacon on BBC.
Now based in a 17-acre estate, the couple spends time tending to their animals and enjoying long walks in the countryside.
Ellen has embraced rural life and has even dyed her hair brown, joking it helps her blend in better, stating, “Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”
Since relocating, Ellen has praised life in the UK as calmer and more civil. She has also been sharing snippets of her new rural life on social media.
For instance, she shared a video of some sheep with the caption “We have house sheep,” though they are now sold after they kept escaping.
Following their decision, the couple has sold multiple properties in California, including the Montecito beach house for $5.2M (approximatively MAD 46.9M), confirms Page Six.
Ellen had also opened up to Bacon about her future plans and said she would love a British talk show, but is aware that a similar format to her old show would not work anymore.
She added that she is unsure of what she would do in the future, but will be very careful picking her next move.
“I want to have fun, I want to do something. I do like my chickens but I’m a little bit bored.” she added.
