Marrakech – A lawyer for Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron confirmed that the couple has filed a defamation lawsuit in Delaware against American influencer Candace Owens, demanding “substantial” damages if she continues spreading the conspiracy theory that Brigitte Macron is a man.

In an interview with CNN, the couple’s lawyer, Tom Clare, said the legal move came as “really a last resort” following repeated — and ignored — requests for Owens to retract her statements.

“We’ve spent over a year trying to engage with her, asking her to do the right thing: tell the truth, stop spreading these lies,” Clare said.

“Each time we’ve done that, she mocked the Macrons, she mocked our efforts to set the record straight. Enough is enough, it was time to hold her accountable.”

The Macrons, married since 2007, have largely avoided personal legal battles during Emmanuel Macron’s presidency, which began in 2017.

But this time, the French first lady has reportedly had enough of what she sees as a sustained and humiliating online campaign.

Owens, for her part, appears undeterred. In a recent YouTube video, she waved off the legal filing as “an obvious and desperate public relations strategy,” doubling down on her claim that the French first lady is “a very goofy man.”

The conservative firebrand, known for her inflammatory online presence, has over 4.5 million subscribers on YouTube.

In 2024, Owens was barred entry from both New Zealand and Australia after making controversial statements denying Nazi medical experiments on Jews during the Holocaust — remarks that sparked international outrage.

Whether Owens will tone down her rhetoric or face consequences in court remains to be seen. But for now, the Macrons are making one thing clear: their patience has officially run out.
