Rabat – The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic has been delayed from October 2025 to April 2026.
The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua, needs more time to perfect its huge musical numbers and dramatic scenes.
Filming was wrapped up in May 2024, but the team decided to do extra reshoots and spend more time editing.
The movie is a massive project, with a $155 million budget, and there was even talk of splitting it into two parts. But for now, it’s staying as one epic film.
The lead role goes to Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s real-life nephew. This will be his first major acting role, and early reports say he’s uncanny in the part.
Jafar is supported by an incredible ensemble, including Colman Domingo as the tough but driven Joe Jackson, and Nia Long as the loving yet resilient Katherine Jackson. Miles Teller steps into the role of John Branca, the savvy lawyer who helped shape Michael’s career, while Larenz Tate brings Motown mogul Berry Gordy to life.
The star-studded cast also features Kat Graham as Diana Ross, Jessica Sula as La Toya Jackson, and Kendrick Sampson as legendary producer Quincy Jones.
With such a talented group, the film promises to deliver powerful performances that will immerse audiences in Michael’s extraordinary journey.
One of the biggest challenges for “Michael” was getting permission to use the King of Pop’s legendary music.
Since Jackson’s songs are owned by multiple parties, including his estate, record labels, and publishing companies, the production team had to negotiate complex deals to feature hits like “Billie Jean,” “Thriller,” and “Beat It.”
Oscar-winning producer Graham King led the talks, ensuring the film could authentically recreate Jackson’s electrifying performances.
The deals weren’t just about using the original recordings, since some tracks required new arrangements for dramatic scenes, while others needed synchronization rights for choreography.
With its perfect cast, legendary music, and stunning recreations of MJ’s greatest moments, this biopic is shaping up to be the ultimate tribute.
