Rabat – Held in Imouzzer Kandar, under the theme “Tamazirte, Memory of the Ancestors and Legacy of the Descendants, ‘ the 5th edition of the Tamazirte Festival kicked off last Friday
Organized by the “La Voix des Jeunes” association, and with the of Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and in partnership with the municipality of Imouzzer Kandar, this event celebrates the tangible and intangible heritage of the region and encouraging young people to participate in cultural life, making culture a lever for local development.
The festival first began with the creation of a mural featuring graffiti and street art, followed by an animated evening filled with performances of the folklore and artistic heritage of the Middle Atlas. The crowd was for residents, Moroccan expatriates, and tourists who enjoyed the friendly welcoming atmosphere.
In a statement to MAP, Festival director Younes Aouine announced a varied and rich program was designed to ensure the success of the event, which has now become an annual gathering on the region’s cultural and artistic calendar.
Artist Latifa Ahrrare, who attended as a guest of honor, highlighted the central role of young people in the event’s success, adding that it offers visitors an opportunity to discover the region’s cultural and artistic diversity.
She has also noted the large public turnout, praising the quality of the organization, the rich program, which included tributes to artistic figures, book signings, film screenings, artistic workshops, and musical evenings.
Concluded on Sunday, one of the key highlights of this festival was the inauguration of the “Tamazirte Library,” an open-air initiative to encourage reading and cultural exchange with the slogan “Read wherever you are, even on the sidewalk.”
This was followed by the book signing for “Lettre à mon ego” by writer Fatima Makdad, and screening of the documentary “Sahara mon amour” by Latifa Ahrrare, attended by former resistance fighters and activists from the city.
