Marrakech – Today, Marrakech transformed into a stage for British flavors, as the British Embassy in Rabat and the British Consulate General in Casablanca, alongside Carrefour Gourmet Label’Vie, hosted a vibrant reception under the UK’s Great Campaign.
The atmosphere was nothing short of aesthetic; soft music floating through the air, trays of delicacies served with elegance, and guests mingling over plates of good food.
Gluten-free snacks from unique brands and others from Cadbury and Weetabix sat alongside Dragonfly Tea, Wyke Farms’ award-winning cheeses, and a selection of timeless UK classics.
Speaking to Morocco World News, Lydie Sheehan, the UK’s Agriculture, Food and Drink Attaché for Africa, shared that the goal of the campaign is “to bring a flavor of the UK’s four nations; England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.”
Explaining the choice of city, she added, “Marrakech was a great place to launch this initiative. It wasn’t a coincidence. We chose Marrakech because firstly there is already a familiarity with the UK.”
“There are British consumers and customers here through the hospitality industry. We have people here today that represent the world-class culinary field.”
But beyond the plates and flavors lies a bigger vision. “The UK and Morocco relationship has deepened significantly this year following the visit of our Foreign Secretary, and we’re really excited about this new step up in our relationship with Morocco,” Sheehan noted.
On the trade front, she pointed to the crucial role Morocco plays, stating, “It’s a trade-related goal. Morocco exports so much to the UK which we really rely on in our food chain. We are dependent on imports from Morocco. In recent years, we saw how important Morocco’s tomatoes were, for example.”
The launch wasn’t just about food; it was about connection, blending flavors, strengthening ties, and giving Moroccan food lovers their first taste of British culinary icons.
