Fez – The Université Internationale de Rabat (UIR) will expand to Marrakech with a campus dedicated to cinema and image professions, targeting an opening in 2026.

UIR executives confirmed the Marrakech project to Le Brief, positioning the new school as part of the university’s broader growth strategy and its goal of supporting the Marrakech–Safi region’s creative economy. The campus will focus on practical training for filmmaking and related crafts, with curricula built alongside Netflix and UCLA.

While UIR has not yet published a detailed academic catalog for the site, the university’s move aligns with recent industry efforts to widen training pipelines across MENA, including Netflix-backed initiatives for emerging Arab filmmakers. The Marrakech campus is framed as a pathway for students to gain skills that match international standards while staying rooted in Morocco’s production landscape.

The initiative adds a higher-education anchor to a city already known for its film profile, from location shoots to the Marrakech International Film Festival. It also complements earlier reports on UIR’s expansion plans in the Marrakech area, signaling a multi-year build-out that pairs facilities with sector partnerships.

UIR’s leadership has linked the project to a national push to professionalize creative industries and to equip graduates for careers that span production, post-production, and the broader audiovisual value chain. With Netflix and UCLA at the table, the university is betting on a model that blends local context with global classroom and studio practices.

UIR says the Marrakech film campus is slated to open for the 2026 intake. Admissions and program specifics have yet to be released publicly; prospective students should watch UIR’s channels for updates as plans are formalized.
