Marrakech – In a lighthearted moment that quickly took over social media, US President Donald Trump broke into his signature dance upon landing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as part of his five-day tour across Asia.
After a 23-hour flight from Washington, Trump descended from Air Force One with a wide smile for the cameras.
Standing before a red carpet rolled out on the airport runway, Trump began swaying his hips and waving his hands to the beat of traditional Malaysian drums, a scene many have dubbed a display of “dance diplomacy.”
The performance was led by a multicultural Malaysian troupe representing the country’s diverse ethnic groups: Malays, Chinese, Indians, and the Indigenous peoples of Borneo, creating a festive tableau that celebrated Malaysia’s cultural unity.
Joining Trump was Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who enthusiastically clapped along to the rhythm, sharing a rare lighthearted moment within the usually rigid setting of diplomatic protocol.
Trump has often showcased his signature hand gestures and footwork during campaign rallies, particularly to the beat of his favorite song, “Y.M.C.A.” by The Village People.
His stop in Malaysia culminated in the signing of a symbolic peace agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, following his direct mediation, effectively ending a brief border dispute between the two Southeast Asian neighbors.
