Fez — The Moroccan fusion duo Bab L’Bluz is set to perform in Kenitra on Tuesday, January 27, at the Institut français de Kénitra performance hall, offering local audiences an immersive concert rooted in trance, rhythm, and contemporary reinterpretations of Moroccan musical heritage.

The Kenitra concert forms part of a national tour running from January 20 to 28, during which the duo will perform in several Moroccan cities, including Agadir, Essaouira, El Jadida, Meknes, and Tetouan.

The tour is expected to draw fans of Moroccan fusion music and live performance experiences driven by intensity and collective energy.

A sound born in Marrakech

Formed in Marrakech in 2018, Bab L’Bluz has carved out a distinctive place in Morocco’s alternative music landscape. The group’s name, meaning “The Door of the Blues,” reflects its role as a bridge between tradition and experimentation. Its music blends elements of Gnaoua rhythms, Hassani vocals, chaâbi grooves, and psychedelic distortions, anchored by the use of an electric guembri that reshapes familiar sounds into a contemporary language.

The duo includes singer and multi-instrumentalist Yousra Mansour and musician Brice Bottin, whose collaboration brings together Moroccan roots and Franco-European influences within a shared creative vision.

Part of the Nayda movement

Bab L’Bluz is widely associated with the Nayda movement, a wave of alternative Moroccan music that incorporates Darija, urban energy, and cultural roots while pushing against conventional genre boundaries. The group’s music channels the spirit of a generation eager to reinterpret heritage without freezing it in the past.

Yousra Mansour, originally from the Doukkala region, embodies this approach through a stage presence that merges vocal power, musical experimentation, and a strong sense of identity. The group’s performances often blur the line between concert and ritual, relying on repetition, rhythm, and intensity to create a trance-like atmosphere.

From ‘Nayda!’ to international stages

Since the release of its debut album “Nayda!,” Bab L’Bluz has steadily expanded its international presence, performing on stages across Europe and beyond. The group’s live shows are known for their raw energy and physical engagement, where hypnotic riffs and rhythmic build-ups encourage a sense of collective release.

Their continued global touring has positioned Bab L’Bluz as one of the most visible faces of contemporary Moroccan fusion music, combining poetic expression with sonic intensity.

A rare chance for live communion

The Kenitra concert offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience this expanding musical universe up close. Each performance becomes a space of shared immersion, where echoes of ancestral sounds meet present-day urgency.

As Bab L’Bluz continues its journey across Morocco, the tour stands as a celebration of a plural musical identity, deeply rooted yet open to the world, reaffirming the power of live music as a space for connection, movement, and renewal.
