Marrakech – On February 8, Musée d’Art Contemporain Africain Al Maaden (MACAAL) in Marrakech will unveil three new installations, each presented in a dedicated space within the museum’s permanent parcours.

As part of its ongoing exhibition “Seven Contours, One Collection,” MACAAL has assigned three specific areas of the museum to temporary installations that respond to the institution’s core themes of memory, identity, spirituality, and contemporary African narratives.

Atrium: “Statues Also Breathe” by Prune Nourry

The Atrium space will host “Statues Also Breathe,” a large-scale sculptural installation by Prune Nourry, developed in collaboration with Nigerian art students, women potters, and the families of the Chibok schoolgirls abducted in 2024.

Composed of 108 clay sculptures, the work functions as both a memorial and a collective artistic project rooted in Yoruba terracotta traditions.

A documentary film accompanying the installation will be presented alongside the work.

Staircase: “Crazy Lines” by Yassine Balbzioui

Moroccan artist Yassine Balbzioui will completely transform the museum’s staircase with “Crazy Lines,” an in situ installation that combines mural and oil painting, and sculptural elements.

Designed specifically for this architectural space, the installation turns a passageway into an immersive visual environment, inviting visitors to move through the artwork rather than simply observe it.

Artist Room: “ILĀ TURĀB” by Fatiha Zemmouri

In the Artist Room, artist Fatiha Zemmouri will present “ILĀ TURĀB,” an ephemeral floor installation made from earth, and written using Arabic diwani calligraphy.

The work guides visitors through a circular path between two phases: “from the earth” and “to the earth,” offering a meditative experience focused on memory, transmission, and return.
