Casablanca – The Embassy of India hosted today a special evening of Indian cinema at Rabat’s Cinema Renaissance, presenting the beloved movie DDLJ to Moroccan audiences as part of the ongoing India film Festival in the Moroccan capital.

Following the screening of “Dangal” last Friday, this initiative highlights different facets of Indian cinema for local audiences. Both screening days attracted fans of Indian cinema, including members of the Indian community in Morocco.

“It was a great initiative by the Embassy of India and we would like to see more movies like this” one attendee told Morocco World News.

“The ambience was great, everyone was so happy, and I mean we could all see it through the clapping.”

From the sports drama of Dangal, today’s screening set a completely different vibe: romance. Released in 1995, “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” is widely regarded as one of the most beloved romantic movies in Indian cinema.

The movie stars Shah Rukh Khan as Raj and Kajol as Simran, two young Indians living in London who meet during a trip across the continent.

They initially clash and can’t stand each other, but they fall deeply in love by the end of the trip. Yet their romance faces a challenge: Simran’s father has already promised her hand in marriage to a family friend’s son in India.

Rather than eloping, he follows her to win her family’s approval, blending love, humor, and tradition in a story that has captivated audiences for decades.

Directed by Aditya Chopra, DDLJ is celebrated not only for its story but also for its timeless music. Iconic songs like “Tujhe Dekha To,” “Mere Khwabon Mein,” and “Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna” have become synonymous with Bollywood romance and remain beloved worldwide.

Beyond the entertainment, they offer a window into Indian culture, showing how universal themes like love can resonate across borders.

Events like these bring people together. Fans of Indian movies get a chance to connect, share their love for cinema, and enjoy the experience together.
