Fez — “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has crossed $2 billion (MAD 18.68 billion) at the worldwide box office after only three weekends in theaters, becoming the eighth film in history to reach the milestone.

The superhero blockbuster has earned $785.8 million (MAD 7.34 billion) in North America and $1.236 billion (MAD 11.54 billion) internationally, bringing its global total to approximately $2.022 billion (MAD 18.89 billion).

Variety reported that the film reached the threshold during its third weekend of release. Only “Avengers: Endgame” has reached $2 billion (MAD 18.68 billion) faster, doing so in 11 days in 2019. “Brand New Day” took roughly 18 days.

The milestone also makes “Brand New Day” Sony Pictures’ highest-grossing film ever, overtaking 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which finished its theatrical run with about $1.92 billion (MAD 17.93 billion) worldwide.

One of only eight $2 billion films

Crossing $2 billion (MAD 18.68 billion) puts “Brand New Day” in an unusually small company.

Box Office Mojo ranks the movie among the highest-grossing films of all time, alongside titles including “Avatar,” “Avengers: Endgame,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Titanic,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Its performance is particularly significant for the Spider-Man franchise. “No Way Home” came close to the $2 billion (MAD 18.68 billion) mark but stopped at around $1.921 billion (MAD 17.94 billion) after not receiving a theatrical release in China.

“Brand New Day,” by comparison, has generated more than $1.23 billion (MAD 11.49 billion) from international markets.

The movie had already signaled an extraordinary run during its opening weekend. Variety reported that the film opened with around $360 million (MAD 3.36 billion) in North America and approximately $932 million (MAD 8.70 billion) worldwide.

It then passed $1 billion (MAD 9.34 billion) globally after only six days, setting the stage for its latest milestone.

Could Spider-Man reach $3 billion?

With the film still early in its theatrical run, attention is now shifting toward records that once appeared almost unreachable.

At $785.8 million (MAD 7.34 billion) domestically, “Brand New Day” is already among North America’s biggest releases. The all-time domestic record stands at approximately $936.7 million (MAD 8.75 billion), set by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

Variety noted that box-office observers are now watching whether the film could become the first to pass $1 billion (MAD 9.34 billion) in North America and potentially challenge $3 billion (MAD 28.02 billion) worldwide.
