Rabat – Fans of “The Office,” rejoice! The beloved mockumentary format is back with a fresh setting, new faces, and just the right amount of madness, all through a new comedy called “The Paper.”
Created by “The Office’s” Greg Daniels and “Nathan for You’s” Michael Koman, the show debuts this September 4 on Peacock in the US, promising a spiritual successor to the workplace comedy that redefined the genre.
Set in a struggling local newspaper called “The Truth Teller,” the series swaps corporate sales for grassroots journalism.
The story follows Ned Sampson, a wide-eyed new editor-in-chief played by “The Patient’s” Domhnall Gleeson, who quickly realizes his newsroom is populated by volunteer journalists who, to put it kindly, are not exactly Pulitzer material.
But there’s a familiar face amidst this mess. Oscar Nuñez reprises his role as Oscar Martinez, the no-nonsense accountant from Dunder Mifflin, who now finds himself reluctantly drawn back into documentary cameras and dysfunctional workplaces.
His return bridges the old and new worlds, creating continuity for longtime fans while allowing newcomers to jump right in.
Joining Gleeson and Nuñez is a dynamic cast including Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus,) Gbemisola Ikumelo (Black Ops,) Melvin Gregg (Nine Perfect Strangers,) and Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever.)
With a diverse ensemble and the same deadpan documentary style, “The Paper” aims to explore modern-day journalism with humor, heart, and plenty of awkward silences.
According to TVInsider, the series uses the same fictional documentary crew from “The Office,” adding an extra layer of realism and nostalgia for longtime fans.
