Marrakech – The city of Kenitra recently pulsed to the rhythms of Malhoun music as it hosted the second edition of the National Malhoun Festival.

Organized by the Association of Art Enthusiasts for Education and Culture, the event was held in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Green March and Morocco’s Independence Day, bringing together leading voices of this ancestral musical tradition.

This festive gathering served as an opportunity to honor several emblematic figures of Malhoun, including artists Touria Hadrioui, Abdelkrim Sadiki, and scholar Prof. Noureddine Chammas.

Dedicated to the memory of the late Dr. Abbas Jirari, founder of academic research on Malhoun, the festival aimed to “revive this art, highly cherished in Kenitra, and contribute to its preservation, knowing that Malhoun is one of the cornerstones of Morocco’s cultural identity,” said renowned Malhoun singer and president of the organizing association, Fatima Hadad.

The edition brought together a wide array of artists from across the Kingdom who participated in musical evenings and scientific seminars dedicated to Malhoun.

The major halls of the Provincial Directorate of Culture and the Kenitra municipality provided the backdrop for this celebration of the art’s richness.
