Fez — BTS is set to make a historic return to the global stage, with Netflix announcing it will livestream the group’s comeback concert to viewers in around 190 countries, including Morocco.
The concert, titled “BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG,” will take place on March 21 in Gwanghwamun Square, at the heart of the South Korean capital. Netflix confirmed that the performance will stream live exclusively on its platform, potentially making it the largest live K-pop broadcast to date.
The event follows a hiatus that began in 2022, when BTS paused group activities as members fulfilled South Korea’s mandatory military service. All seven members were discharged last year, clearing the way for a full-scale reunion.
New album and documentary
The livestreamed concert will come one day after the release of BTS’s new studio album, “ARIRANG,” scheduled for March 20. Named after a traditional Korean folk song associated with longing, separation, and resilience, the album is described as a reflection on the group’s origins and identity.
“ARIRANG” will be BTS’s first release since “Proof” (2022), an anthology album that became South Korea’s best-selling record of that year.
Netflix also announced a new documentary, “BTS: THE RETURN,” which will debut on March 27 and chronicle the group’s reunion and preparation for their comeback.
A record-breaking tour ahead
Following the Seoul concert, BTS will embark on a global tour starting in April. According to their label HYBE, the tour will span 34 cities and include 79 shows, making it the largest single tour by a K-pop group in terms of performances and geographic reach.
The announcement had an immediate market impact, with HYBE shares rising in morning trading in Seoul.
Cultural and economic weight
Beyond music, BTS represents a major economic force for South Korea. Prior to their military service, the group generated more than 5.5 trillion won annually for the national economy, according to the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute — roughly 0.2 percent of the country’s gross domestic product.
