Casablanca – When you’ve tried many fancy, creamy cakes, especially with today’s social media trends, there comes a point where you start craving something simpler yet just as delicious. Apple cake is one of those timeless recipes.

Affordable, easy to make, and truly satisfying, this is the kind of cake you’ll find yourself coming back to again and again.

Ingredients

3 eggs

5 tbsp sugar

1 cup orange juice or milk

Orange zest

1 cup vegetable oil

1 cup semolina + a little extra as needed

8 g baking powder

Vanilla (essential if using milk instead of orange juice)

2 large apples

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 170–180°C.
  • In a bowl, mix the eggs, sugar, and vanilla, then add the oil, orange juice (or milk), and orange zest.
  • Gradually add the semolina while mixing until the batter is smooth. Add the baking powder and mix gently until fully incorporated.
  • Grease a baking pan with butter and lightly flour it.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  • Peel and slice the apples, then arrange them evenly over the batter in the pan.
  • Bake using bottom heat only. If needed, briefly turn on the top heat at the end to allow the surface to brown.
  • Once out of the oven, brush the top with jam, nappage, or honey for a glossy finish.
  • Serve it with atay (our all time favorite!) or juice.
