Rabat – Moroccan rapper Dizzy DROS’ government-critical song “M3a L3echrane” has garnered record-breaking 3.4 million views on Youtube in less than 48 hours.
The song, which heavily criticizes the Moroccan government and sheds light on current social and economic issues, is currently the number one trending Youtube video in Morocco and France.
The video clip was also trending in several other countries, including Algeria and Spain.
The figures reflect the massive appeal of the song for Moroccans, who encouraged the rapper’s move to convey strong messages and tackle societal issues through art.
The music video shows politicians at a press conference, with a logo that resembles that of Morocco’s ruling party, the National Rally of Independents.
The current Moroccan government, headed by Aziz Akhannouch, has recently come under fire amid soaring food and energy prices. The North African country is currently suffering from alarmingly increasing prices in basic goods and commodities.
The music video also touches on the issue of police and prison brutality, as well how many young Moroccans with a difficult upbringing and disadvantaged background turn to crime.
Taking to social media to celebrate the success of his song, Dizzy DROS reveled in the fact that his song is the number one trending video in Morocco, France, and Algeria. The Moroccan rapper noted that “M3a L3echran” is also the second most trending video in Spain and seventh worldwide.
“LET’S GO,” Dizzy DROS said, with fans congratulating him on his work and expressing their admiration for the thought and effort put into it.
“I am not into rap but somehow the last moroccan rap music videos i remember i listened to and got stunned by them … are all from you…special,” a Twitter user said.
Some even described Dizzy DROS’ work as the “best video clip in the history of Moroccan rap,” praising the quality of the music video, including the lyrics, music, messages, and visual effects.
An Instagram commenter said, “Waiting for somebody else to beat this in Morocco.”
