Fez — Moroccan author and director Hicham Lasri will take part in TEDxUM5 on July 12 at the INSMAC Auditorium in Rabat, where he will appear as one of the event’s speakers.

The event is scheduled for 2 p.m. and brings Lasri into a public setting shaped around ideas, creativity, and personal expression. His participation adds a strong cultural dimension to the program, given his long-standing place in Morocco’s contemporary artistic scene.

Lasri is known for working across cinema, writing, visual art, and performance. His work often moves outside conventional forms, using bold imagery and fragmented storytelling to explore identity, memory, social pressure, and the contradictions of modern life.

A creative voice beyond cinema

For many Moroccan audiences, Lasri represents a kind of artist who does not fit neatly into one category. He has built a career through experimentation, mixing film, literature, and visual language in ways that challenge simple labels.

His newly released work, “Haich Maich,” pushes that approach into Darija. Written as a flowing monologue in Moroccan Arabic, the book gives everyday speech literary force, turning humor, complaint, irony, and emotional fracture into a raw narrative voice.

That makes his presence at TEDxUM5 especially fitting. The event offers a platform where artistic experience can become a wider conversation about imagination, freedom, and the role of creators in society.

Holding the talk at INSMAC also connects the moment to Morocco’s audiovisual and cinema world. For students, young artists, and culture followers, Lasri’s appearance is likely to resonate as both an artistic encounter and an invitation to think differently about creative paths.

Lasri’s participation highlights the growing space Morocco is giving to independent cultural voices. It also reflects the importance of public forums that bring artists closer to audiences, beyond festivals, galleries, or film screenings.
