Fez — DYSTINCT is not simply announcing “Katkouta.” He is pretending to go to work for it.
In his latest Instagram rollout, the Moroccan-Belgian singer appears as a worker at a fictional “BABABAKERY,” where he is shown baking something mysterious that is supposedly arriving soon.
The joke leads directly into “Katkouta,” DYSTINCT’s upcoming single, which he confirmed will arrive on Friday, August 28.
DYSTINCT revealed the Friday release through his official Instagram account on Monday.
The bakery concept is the latest layer of a rollout that has been happening in plain sight for weeks.
Across recent social posts, DYSTINCT has repeatedly teased “Katkouta” alongside candy, chocolate, biscuits, cake, and other sugary imagery. One clip was simply captioned “Katkouta” with candy emojis, while another announced “KATKOUTAAAAAA LOADING.”
The result is less like a conventional single announcement and more like a running visual joke.
From ‘BABABA WORLD’ to ‘BABABAKERY’
“Bababakery” also works because it is not a random name.
DYSTINCT has spent the past year building much of his visual and musical identity around “BABABA WORLD,” the title of his 2025 album.
Sony Music described the project as his third studio album, bringing together urban music, raï, rap, and Afrobeat across an international set of collaborations.
Turning “BABABA WORLD” into “BABABAKERY” lets DYSTINCT stretch that identity into something instantly recognizable while also matching the language surrounding “Katkouta.”
Instead of posting a release date over cover artwork and calling it a day, he has created a fictional workplace where the new song is literally being “baked.”
That kind of teasing has become a familiar part of DYSTINCT’s release strategy.
The audience already knows the hook before the song is officially out. Now they also know the candy, the cakes, the bakery, and the joke surrounding it.
For an artist whose recent releases often begin circulating online long before their official arrival, “BABABAKERY” turns anticipation itself into part of the product.
Whatever DYSTINCT has been baking, the oven opens Friday.
