Rabat – Morocco’s famous La Mamounia hotel in Marrakech was ranked the best in North Africa, with a score of nearly 99%, in a recent ranking released by travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller.
The list featured the top hotels and resorts in Africa, as voted by the magazine’s readers, as part of its 2022 Reader Choice Awards.
Conde Nast Traveller ranked the hotel as the best in the world in 2021. La Mamounia also received countless awards for its architecture and hospitality.
Designed in 1929 by French architects Henri Post and Antoine Marchisio, La Mamounia is located in the heart of Marrakech’s old city, facing the Atlas Mountains.
The hotel offers a variety of lodging options, including luxurious rooms and private Riads. The hotel’s rooms combine conventional Moroccan design with western influences and Art Deco aesthetics.
The resort also offers signature suites to guests, such as the Churchill suite, where the former British Prime Minister stayed when he visited the city.
Along with its wide range of accommodations, the hotel is renowned worldwide for its excellent courteous service, as guests are frequently greeted with fresh glasses of beverage and dates.
Marrakech dominated the magazine’s ranking, housing 9 of the top 10 hotels in North Africa.
The list featured The Oberoi Marrakech as the second-best hotel in North Africa scoring 98.5, with Marrakech’s Mandarin Orienta resort coming in third with a similar score.
Kasbah Tamadot, near Marrakech, came in fourth, while La Maison Arabe came in sixth, scoring a 97.8.
Other accommodations recommended by Conde Nast Traveller in Marrakech are the Royal Mansour Marrakech, Selman Marrakech, La Sultana Marrakech, and El Fenn Hotel.
Over the decades, Marrakech has maintained its magic and appeal among celebrities and tourists, many of whom travel there to experience Morocco’s traditional markets, foods and arts.
