Rabat – Moroccan Amine Echiguer came out on top of the general classification of the 22nd edition of the Rally of Morocco, after winning the third phase of the motorcycle category “Rally 3” in Laayoune on Tuesday.
Echiguer finished the 299-kilometer race in four hours, 11 minutes, and 49 seconds, outperforming France’s Christophe Lajouanie and Guillaume Born.
Echiguer took to Instagram to celebrate his win, saying it was the “best day for me today. 1st of the stage, I consolidated my lead.”
In addition to yesterday’s victory, Echiguer won the first stage – Rally 1 – of the 2022 Rally of Morocco, which linked Agadir to the southern city of Tantan. He recorded a time of 4 hours, 47 minutes, and 17 seconds, surpassing France’s Guillaume Borne and India’s Abdul Wahid.
The Moroccan athlete expressed his pride “to be at the top of the rankings with leading figures in this discipline,” Moroccan state media reported.
Echiguer highlighted his year-long, intensive training journey prior to the tournament, notably in the Moroccan cities of Errachidia, Zagora, and Merzouga, where tracks are similar to those in the rally.
The fourth stage of the rally, which will take place today, will lead the participants from Laayoune back toward the city of Tantan.
