Casablanca – Some dreams take a little longer to make it onto the stage. For Bassma Boussel, one of them was singing in French. After years of keeping that ambition close, the Moroccan singer is now three songs into her French-language chapter, with “Dans mes bras” (in my arms) marking her latest release.
The new song touches on something deeply personal and familiar to many: learning to love yourself. “A song about self-love, built around one line: ‘I never forget that I am my first love,’” Boussel wrote in the YouTube description of the release.
“Dans mes bras” completes her French-language trilogy, following “Renaissance” and “Maintenant.”
But French is more than just another language through which she expresses her artistry. It represents a passion she held onto for years and a dream she finally decided to pursue.
‘Rebirth’
Before releasing “Renaissance,” Boussel opened up about what she had always wanted: to sing in French. Throughout her career, she had performed exclusively in Arabic, something she felt had more to do with expectations than with her own artistic choices.
She described “Renaissance” as a rebirth, a moment when she finally gave herself permission to pursue what she truly wanted and reconnect with the artist she wanted to be.
That passion did not end with her first French release. With “Maintenant” and now “Dans mes bras,” Boussel continues to explore this side of herself, giving her audience more of the musical expression she had long wanted to share.
Boussel also performed a short excerpt of “Dans mes bras” in Egyptian Arabic, adding a touch of another language to the French-language project.
Finding comfort in your own arms
Beyond the story behind its release, “Dans mes bras” carries a message that goes straight to the heart. The lyrics explore the relationship we have with ourselves, especially during moments when the world feels confusing, loneliness sets in, or life becomes overwhelming.
Rather than looking for comfort somewhere else, Boussel turns inward. The song returns to the image of holding oneself in one’s own arms, whether alone or even in the presence of someone else. A reminder that self-love does not have to depend on another person’s presence or approval.
With “Dans mes bras,” Boussel continues a musical chapter that began with a long-held dream, this time through a deeply personal song about self-love and acceptance.
