Rabat – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is on a family vacation to Morocco’s red city Marrakech.

Sanchez arrived in Marrakech on a commercial flight and plans to spend a few days in the city to unwind with his family before the start of the new political course, Spanish media reported.

While there was speculation that Sanchez would travel to Lanzarote for his vacation, it seems he decided to stay in Madrid until today before leaving for Morocco.

The President’s vacation commences shortly after recording a video at the PSOE headquarters in Ferraz, where he expressed hope in garnering enough support to secure an investiture that would allow for continued progress over the next four years.

This is not the first time that a Spanish Prime Minister chooses Morocco as a vacation spot.

Former Spanish government leaders Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and Felipe Gonzalez both had previously spent holiday periods in northern Morocco. However, since Zapatero left the post in 2012, no other Spanish Prime Minister has chosen the North African country for their vacations.

In 2011, Zapatero spent New Year’s Eve in the northern city of Tangier, accompanied by his family and then-foreign minister Trinidad Jimenez.

Other celebrities and notable people from football stars to Hollywood actors, including Oprah Winfrey, Kylian Mbappe, and Robert de Niro, have all recently chosen Marrakech for their vacations as well.
