Â
The Moroccan festival is making a comeback this year following a three-year hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Â
Scheduled from June 21 to June 29 in Rabat, the 19th edition of the annual festival will offer a global platform for both established stars and emerging talents.
Â
With more days of music and festivities ahead, Mawazine Festival 2024 sets the stage for yet another memorable edition.Â
Â
However, this year’s edition comes with controversy, as it is seen by many as an inappropriate time for festivities given the devastating turmoil in the world.  Â
Â
The decision to continue to hold the festival has stirred debate among Moroccans for its perceived neglect of the escalating plight of Palestinians as a result of Israel’s deadly offensive on Gaza.Â
Â
Many argue that hosting Western, pro-Israeli artists contradicts Morocco’s historic solidarity with the Palestinian cause, and Abdelilah Benkirane, the Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) has even called for its cancellation.  Â
