From the start of his career, the Franco-Moroccan TV director has been known for sparking controversy with his bold choices – did he do it again?

Marrakech – “Everybody Loves Touda,” the gripping drama by Nabil Ayouch, has been selected to represent Morocco at the Oscars in the Best International Film category.

If this doesn’t scream cinematic glory, I don’t know what does.

The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last May and is now on track to make history.

With an incredible performance by Nisrin Erradi in the lead role of Touda, the film is aiming for nominations in major categories like Best Director for Ayouch and Best Actress for Erradi.

If the Academy embraces this powerful story, it will mark a historic first for Moroccan cinema; a truly monumental moment.

In a press release shared with MWN, Nabil Ayouch, understandably emotional, shared that, “Representing our country in international competitions is an immense pride.”

“I sincerely thank everyone who believes in the film and has supported us thus far. This is a new door opening for Moroccan cinema and another proof of its dynamism.”

You can almost feel the weight of that pride through the screen, what a moment for Moroccan film!

Nisrin Erradi recently wrapped up a tour across the US, bringing “Everybody Loves Touda” to key cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York, where she presented the film to members of the Academy.

The next big milestone comes in mid-December when the shortlist for the Best International Film Oscar is revealed. Let’s keep our fingers crossed; this is a game-changer for Moroccan cinema.Read Also: Arab-owned Beauty Brands: Chic, Sleek, and Stunning
