This collection of paintings, perfectly timed with the Sofitel’s 60th anniversary, is like the ultimate celebration of both heritage and timeless elegance.

Marrakech – If you’re in Marrakech on December 5, get ready for an art experience that brings together centuries of tradition and the boldness of contemporary vision.

Moroccan painter Kamélia Zarqani’s exhibition “Le Patrimoine Éternel” promises to be a celebration of Moroccan heritage that speaks to both the past and the present.

Hosted at Sofitel Marrakech, this exhibition showcases over 30 works by Zarqani, each piece a stunning interpretation of Morocco’s deep cultural roots.

What makes this exhibition so special? For one, Zarqani’s ability to take traditional Moroccan symbols and reimagine them in a modern context.

She explores the country’s heritage with an approach that blends symbolism, spirituality, and art in a way that feels both timeless and fresh.

One symbol that is featured prominently in the pieces is the “Khmissa.”

Known as the Hand of Fatima, is one of the most recognizable symbols in Moroccan culture, seen on everything from jewelry to doorways.

This protective hand is believed to ward off the evil eye, offering a shield against negative energy.

A symbol of strength, guidance, and protection, Zarqani uses it to weave a sense of spiritual guardianship into her work.

Another common theme Zarqani says  her pieces embody is “Tamaghrabit,” which essentially means “Moroccan-ness” – the collective spirit of the country’s identity.

Rooted in Amazigh culture, this term also refers to a sense of community and unity, transcending regional or ethnic divisions to create a shared cultural identity.

Zarqani, through her work, taps into this deep sense of belonging, exploring how tradition can be a unifying force in an ever-changing world.

The artist’s pieces are filled with vibrant, earthy tones that speak to the land itself – those warm, rich hues that represent both Morocco’s spiritual depth and the natural beauty of its landscapes.

Her geometric designs and intricate mosaics call back to the country’s architectural history, grounding her work in a deep appreciation of Morocco’s artistic traditions.

At its core, “Le Patrimoine Éternel” is a love letter to Morocco, its people, and its heritage.

Through Zarqani’s eyes, the exhibition invites viewers to see the familiar symbols of Moroccan culture in a new light – an invitation to reflect on the past while looking toward the future.

A renowned Moroccan painter from Ouezzane, Zarqani’s artistic journey has been defined by a deep commitment to preserving and reinterpreting Morocco’s cultural heritage.

Over the years, she has established herself as a prominent figure in the Moroccan art scene, participating in more than 20 exhibitions – both solo and collective – across various esteemed venues.

From the iconic Mamounia Hotel to  Mohammed V Theatre and the Living 4art gallery in Casablanca, Zarqani’s works have reached diverse audiences, each time offering a fresh perspective on Morocco’s history through the lens of contemporary art.
